Common Google Play Store Errors and How to solve Them

The Google Play store is a one stop online place for all things be it movies, music, books, apps and many other things. Its vast content library is indeed one of the best curated and it has helped us numerous times in so many ways. However, the play store also comes with its deficiencies specially all the errors which we get from time to time. This is indeed frustrating, so here I am trying to make your life a little bit easier with a sort of a guide regarding how to solve the most common errors.

P.S. one thing you may notice here is that many of the errors may have similar solutions. If there is some error which you can’t find in here, you may still follow some of the common solutions listed here, like deleting the cache and data of the Play store app or the Google Play Services, uninstalling updates from the Google Play app or turning off WiFi and using mobile data.

Error DF-BPA-09

This is a Google Play processing purchase error which happens when you try to download an app.

Solution:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Services and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data. Click on it and then Ok.

Error DF-BPA -30

This error happens because of the google play servers. One thing which you can do is to wait, since this type of error generally happens due to some issues at Google’s end. However, if you see that the play store is accessible from other devices you can try the below mentioned solution

Solution:

  • Open the Google Play Store from your PC
  • Try to download any app from the play store to your mobile device from the PC
  • Now go back to your mobile and check again if the app is downloading. If yes, then your problem is solved or you can try the steps mentioned in the above error and try deleting the Data or Clearing the Cache.

Error DF-DLA-15

You can get this problem while updating one of your apps or while downloading your apps.

Solution:

  • First, go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store.
  • Here, go the Storage option and delete cache and the data.
  • If following the above steps did not solve your problem, then go to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it.

Error RH-01

This error happens when your smartphone is not able to retrieve information from the Google Servers.

Solution:

  • First, go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store.
  • Here, go the Storage option and delete cache and the data.
  • Repeat the same process and delete the data for the Google Play Services.
  • If following the above steps did not solve your problem, then go to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your phone.

Error RPCS:S-5:AEC-O

This error is associated with retrieving information from google servers.

Solution:

  • First, go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store.
  • Here, go the Storage option and delete cache and the data.
  • In the same place select force stop and then select the three dotted icon in the upper right-hand corner of your display and select Uninstall Updates.
  • Repeat the same process for Google Play Services and Download Manager.

Recovery Error

You will often encounter this error when you will be updating or downloading an app from the play store and the servers are unable to recover any information regarding your google account.

Solution:

  • Go to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your device.
  • Now Go to settings again.
  • Then go to apps & notifications.
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option.
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Services and click on it.
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data. Click on it and then Ok.

Error BM-GVHD-06

This error occurs primarily when you are using a Google Play Card.

Solution:

  • Try restarting your device and use the card again.
  • If the problem continues, then go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store and select force stop and then select the three dotted icon in the upper right-hand corner of your display and select Uninstall Updates.

Error RPC:S-3

When this error occurs, you are not able download any apps.

Solution:

  • Go to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your device.
  • If the problem persists, try an alternate account.

Authentication Error

This is one of the most common error faced by android users worldwide.

Solution:

  • Firstly, go to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your device.
  • Secondly, Go to settings again.
  • Then go to apps & notifications.
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option.
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store appand click on it.
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data. Click on it and then Ok.
  • If the error persists, then go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store and select force stop and then select the three dotted icon in the upper right-hand corner of your display and select Uninstall Updates.

Package File Invalid

This error may occur while you are either downloading or installing an app.

I’m listing all the methods which I have found to be helpful regarding this problem. Follow the steps chronologically and go the next step if the problem persists.

Solution:

  • Restart your device.
  • Try Clearing the Cache and Data of the Google play store app using the steps given above.
  • Try installing the app through the Google Play Store website.
  • Try clearing the Cache and Data of the Google Play Services using the steps given above.
  • You can also try to sideload the application from 3rd party websites like apkmirror and others.

Error 8

This error usually occurs when you are downloading an app and the download suddenly stops.

Solution:

  • Check whether Google Play Services is installed or not. If not, then install Google Play Services.
  • If the problem continues, then go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > All Apps > Google Play Services > Disable.
  • If the problem continues even after this then contact google support.

Error 18

This is a relatively recent error happening since 2015. This generally happens when you are reinstalling an app which you had already installed in the past.

Solution:

  • If you have a SD Card, then you can try removing and then re-inserting it.
  • If the problem continues, then contact google support.

Error 20

This is an error which indicates a general network failure.

Solution:

  • Clear the Cache of the Google Play store app and then restart your device.
  • If the problem persists, then try uninstalling the google play store updates.
  • Try removing your google account associated with your device and restarting your device.
  • If the problem still persists then you should do a factory reset. To do factory reset go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory Data Reset > Scroll Down and Select Reset Phone.

Error 101

The error mainly occurs due to lack of memory.

Solution:

  • Free up the internal storage of your phone by deleting unused apps and other contents.
  • If the problem continues you can try clearing the caches and data of the Google Play Store app.

Error 103

This is somewhat of an odd error. This error usually happens when the Google Play Store mistakenly identifies an app to be compatible with your device, which really isn’t the case.

Solution:

There is no solution to this problem as such. This error solves itself within a few hours. There isn’t anything you can do to make a particular app compatible with your device.

Error 100

This type of error occurs when you try to install an app or update an app.

Solution:

  • Try clearing the cache of the Google Play Store app.
  • Try deleting the data of the google play store app and the data of the google play services.
  • If the problem persists then you can try removing your google account and reboot the device and then re-adding it.
  • Lastly, you can check whether the date and time is correct. To do so, go to settings > system > date & time. If the time and date are incorrect then disable automatic date & time and manually enter the correct date and time. Do not forget to check the time zone. After this restart your device.

Error 190

This error is associated with storage issues.

Solutions:

  • First check whether you have granted the storage permission.
  • Go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store.
  • Here, go the Storage option and delete cache and the data.
  • Repeat the same process and delete the data and Cache for the Google Play Services, Package Installer, Download Manager, Google Chrome.
  • If the problem persists then you can try removing your google account and reboot the device and then re-adding it.

Error 194

This error usually occurs when you try downloading either an app or some game from the play store.

Solution 1:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Services and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data. Click on it and then Ok.
  • Repeat the same process and now select Google Play Store and Clear Data here also. Then retry your download.
  • If the above steps didn’t work for you, then try checking whether you have the latest version of the play store app. If not, then update the app.

Error 403

A 403 error means your request was not allowed, the play store servers did not entertain your request.

Solution:

  • In this case clearing the proxy generally helps. To do so, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Advanced > Access Point Names > Click the 3 dotted thing on the top right corner > Reset to default.
  • If the above steps didn’t help, then you can try deleting your search history. To do this, go to Play Store > Settings > Clear Local Search History.
  • Another thing which you could try is, if you have multiple google account in your device then trying deleting all but one. To do this, go to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account.

Error 406

This error shows up when you cannot download an app.

Solution:

  • First, go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store.
  • Here, go the Storage option and delete cache.

Error 413

When this error occurs, downloading or updating apps is not possible.

Solution:

  • First, go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store and select the Force Stop option.
  • Here, go the Storage option and delete cache and the data.
  • Repeat the same process and delete the data for the Google Play Services.
  • Also, repeat the same process to find your Internet Browser (Chrome) and Clear the Cache.

 Error 481

This is an error associated with your particular google account.

Solution:

  • Remove your Google account using the steps mentioned above and try adding an alternate account.

Error 491

When this error occurs, downloading or updating apps is not possible.

Solution:

  • Remove your google account by going to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications in the Settings menu and then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Services and select the Force Stop option and also Clear the Data.

Error 492

No apps can be installed when this error shows up.

Solution:

  • First, go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store and select the Force Stop option.
  • Here, go the Storage option and delete cache and the data.
  • Repeat the same process and delete the data for the Google Play Services.
  • If the problem still persists then you should do a factory reset. To do factory reset go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory Data Reset > Scroll Down and Select Reset Phone.

Error 495

Apps can neither be downloaded nor can be updated.

Solution:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Services and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data. Click on it and then Ok.
  • Repeat the same process and now select Google Play Store and Clear Data here also.
  • Remove your google account by going to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your phone.

Error 497

In this situation apps can’t be updated.

Solution:

  • Go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store and select force stop and then Clear Cache and Data and then select the three dotted icon in the upper right-hand corner of your display and select Uninstall Updates.
  • If the problem continues then try disabling your SD Card. To do this go to Settings > Storage > Unmount SD Card.

Error 498

The downloads of apps from the Play Store does not start.

Solution:

  • Try deleting seldomly used apps and files and restarting your phone.
  • If the problem persists, then power off your phone and try restarting your device in recovery mode. To do this select the volume up + power button or the volume down + power button (varies with manufacturers).
  • Here, select Wipe Cache partition by navigating using the volume up and down buttons and selecting the option using the power button.

Error 501

when this error occurs, you can’t open the play store app.

Solution:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Services and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache. Click on it and then Ok.
  • Repeat the same process and now select Google Play Store and Clear Data Cache here also.
  • Remove your google account by going to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your phone. Now leave your phone idle for five minutes without using it.

Error 504

Apps are not downloading due to this error.

Solution:

  • Try clearing the cache and the data of both the Play store app and the Play services.
  • Try, removing your google account and re-adding it.

Error 505

This error occurs when there are two or more apps with the same sets of permissions.

Solution:

  • To resolving this error, you need to first detect which two apps are conflicting themselves. To do so find the apk file of the app you were trying to install when you encountered this error and try to restore the app using a Lucky Patcher backup. This tool will alert you which app is producing this error and uninstall that app.

Error 905

When this error occurs, you cannot download or update your apps.

Solution:

  • Go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store and select the three dotted icon in the upper right-hand corner of your display and select Uninstall Updates.
  • Now, restart the play store app.

Error 911

The app cannot be downloaded.

Solution:

  • Clear data of the Google Play Services
  • Check your WiFi connection
  • Switch from WiFi to mobile network

Error 919

When this error occurs, you can download an app but it won’t open.

Solution:

  • This happens when there is no more storage space left in your device. Delete all unused apps and large files such as videos or games.

Error 920

You are not being able to download apps using the play store.

Solution:

  • Check whether your internet connection is on.
  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache. Click on it and then Ok.
  • Remove your google account by going to the Users & accounts section in the settings menu and from their delete your phone’s google account and then re-add it after restarting your phone. Now leave your phone idle for five minutes without using it.

Error 921

You are not being able to download apps using the play store.

Solution:

  • Check whether your internet connection is on.
  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache. Click on it and then Ok.

Error 923

Apps cannot be downloaded.

Solution:

  • Try removing your google account.
  • Try deleting seldomly used apps and files and restarting your phone.

Error 924

This generally happens when you try to download applications which are in large in size. This error shows up and says the installation is unsuccessful.

Solution:

  • Try uninstalling the updates of the Google Play Store and try downloading the app again.

Error 927

You cannot download apps as the play store is updating itself.

Solution:

  • Wait for a few minutes till the play store upgrades itself.
  • If problem persists, try deleting cache and the data of the play store app.

Error 940

You are not being able to download apps using the play store.

Solution:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache. Click on it and then Ok.
  • Repeat the same process for Play Services and Chrome.

 Error 941

This happens when you interrupt an update.

Solution:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache. Click on it and then Ok.

Error 944

This error occurs when you try to update apps

Solution:

  • This error happens due to some sort of error on Google’s server. Try updating the app after a little while.

Error 961

This error occurs when you try installing an app from the play store.

Solution:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option and then you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache.

Error 963

this error occurs usually in HTC One M8 and M9 devices when you are either downloading or updating an app from the play store.

Solution:

  • Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option and then you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache.
  • Try uninstalling the updates of the Google Play Store and try downloading the app again.
  • Repeat the same process for Play Services.
  • If the problem continues then try disabling your SD Card. To do this go to Settings > Storage > Unmount SD Card.

Error 971

This error does not allow an app to be installed after completion of download.

Solution:

  • This problem is exclusive to some Wiko phones. If you are facing this problem, try updating your phone software. If the problem continues contact Wiko Support.

Error 975

There is not much information regarding Error 975. This is a very rare error. If you are facing this error, immediately contact google support.

Error RH-01

This error is related to server which prevents periodic updating or downloading of apps.

Solution:

  • Firstly, you can check whether the date and time is correct. To do so, go to settings > system > date & time. If the time and date are incorrect then disable automatic date & time and manually enter the correct date and time. Do not forget to check the time zone. After this restart your device.
  • If the problem persists, then Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Store and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option and then you will find the option to Clear All Data and Cache.
  • If still you face the error, then again Go to settings
  • Then go to apps & notifications
  • Here you will see a selection of the apps installed on your device. Click the see all apps option
  • Scroll down the menu to find Google Play Services and click on it
  • Here click on the storage and then go to the manage space option.
  • Here, at the end you will find the option to Clear All Data. Click on it and then Ok.
  • If the problem continues, then go to the Settings in your phone.
  • Now, go to Apps & Notifications. Then select all the apps and scroll down the menu to find the Google Play Store and select force stop and then select the three dotted icon in the upper right-hand corner of your display and select Uninstall Updates.
